Excursion (Sunday, February 3rd, 2019)
Underground Tour
Explore an ancient world underneath the city of Cologne! This tour will guide you through subterranean corridors and Roman drains which are almost 2000 years old. You will visit the cathedral from underneath, the palace of ancient Roman govenors as well as one of Germany’s oldest stone monuments. Thanks to decades of thorough excavations, today you are able to learn about the fascinating Roman history from the remains of their ancients buildings. Find out more about the advanced Roman architecture, about ancient customs and mysteries on your walk underneath the surface.
Brewhouse Tour
Why does the beer in Cologne have its own name - “Kölsch” - and why does it seem to be so important? This tour will introduce you to one of Cologne’s most famous and celebrated traditions - the art of brewing “Kölsch”. But you will not only learn about the process of brewing and what it takes to call a beer “Kölsch”, you will also find out about the multitude of customs surrounding it. To provide you a profound insight, your tour guide will take you to some of the city’s most famous brewhouses where you can taste a few different brands and hear historical anecdotes.
Crime Tour
On this rather extraordinary tour, you will not primarily learn about the good parts of Cologne’s history but in fact focus on the crimes that have been committed during the past 2000 years. Your tour guide will take you to the scenes of bloodthirsty, mysterious or even organised crimes - from burglary and adultery to treason and murder. While there have always been misdoings in the city, the punishments handed out to the criminals have changed drastically over the years. Find out more about cruel crimes and their brutal punishments on this intriguing tour!
Radio & Television Tour
Visit the West German Broadcasting Corporation Cologne (WDR), Europe’s second largest broadcaster (after the BBC). This tour will take you through some TV and radio studios of a public broadcasting institution that also employs two orchestras, the Radio Choir Cologne and the Grammy-Award winning WDR Big Band.
